Program Description

We invite applications for one 1-year research fellow post for an “Experienced Researcher” as part of a Marie Curie Initial Training Network in Electoral Democracy (ELECDEM), funded by the European Commission under the 7th Framework Programme.

ELECDEM brings together 11 expert teams from 9 European countries to provide substantive and methodological training in voting behaviour and elections research to a cohort of early stage and experienced researchers. In total, there are 18 research positions available including the one hosted at the EUI. The objective of the network and associated projects is to evaluate the functioning of democracies in the context of globalisation and technological and institutional change.

One research project, the European Union Democracy Observatory, is hosted at the EUI’s Robert Schumann Centre for Advanced Studies (www.eudo.eu). Its goal is to produce a permanent and periodic assessment of democratic practices within the EU. The experienced researcher would be housed within the Public Opinion observatory of EUDO where s/he will be expected to contribute to the work of the observatory along with pursuing his or her own research.

In particular, the individual appointed will be expected to contribute to the development of an ongoing monitoring of public opinion in Europe through secondary analysis of the regular series of Eurobarometer surveys conducted every six months (or more frequently) by the Commission of the European communities, adding value to that series by importing data from the European Election Study 2009 (voter study data and contextual data in particular).

The researcher will be employed by the EUI’s Robert Schumann Centre and in addition to his/her salary will receive mobility and training allowances. The researcher will join an active team of international researchers at the EUI. Cooperation with other think-tanks, academic institutions and/or universities within the ELECDEM network will be possible. Grants to Fund Case Studies Demonstrating Best Practices in Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing

ATLANTA — Teradata University Network, sponsored by Teradata Corporation (NYSE: TDC), today announced the Teradata Case Competition to encourage and financially support the development of case studies illustrating the successful practice of business intelligence and data warehousing by Teradata customers. More than $50,000 will be awarded in study grants and prizes to professors submitting winning entries. The deadline for case study proposals is May 1.

“We’re doing this to provide professors and faculty an opportunity for funded research, recognition, and publication. The companies that they profile will be further recognized for their leadership in business intelligence and data warehousing,” said Hugh Watson, competition coordinator and professor of MIS in the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia.

The Teradata Case Competition includes two stages, each juried by leading academics and Teradata managers and professionals. The first step is the submission of proposals. The second step is the submission of fully completed case studies. Proposals should focus on the customer’s need for changes, the impact the changes had and the return on investment, as well as summarize the role of the Teradata technology or Teradata professional services in enabling or supporting the work. The company work can be enterprise-wide or departmental but must illustrate best practices and have demonstrable high impact.

Accepted proposals will be announced on June 1 and will receive $10,000 in funding from Teradata. “Each case development grant will help fund the research into the best practices within a specific Teradata customer company,” explained Teradata University Network Director Susan Baxley. “We know that through this effort we will help academics discover the best practices of very successful companies and we suspect that some of those companies will be surprised to learn just how good they are in their use of business intelligence.”

Prize Awarded

Accepted complete case submissions will then be judged and prize winners will be announced November 15. The first place prize is $10,000. All completed case studies will be made available to the academic community to support instruction and research and will also be used by Teradata to illustrate best practices and the value of business intelligence and data warehousing.

For students it is difficult to distinguish amid the deluge of applicants

With the increase are the common application, and the ease of online applications to many schools, many universities are reporting a rise in "stealth applications" of the students who had no previous contact with the college.

It is difficult for the entrance examination to determine whether these candidates are serious, the school will research online, spoke with friends who attend college and perhaps even a visit to the campus, without a formal visit, or students with just a fad because it more work is required of the application.

Some universities make it easier for students who do not seriously think that if it applies to schools and non-fast track applications for a fee. Students often flattered to have received special treatment, but schools that want the same number of applications have to offer thousands of students increase, and there is no guarantee to be recognized at all.

Are you serious?

Press the no-payment request may seem like a breeze, but a response to an offer, regardless of whether the school is a really good game for a little 'when on a date with anyone who asks. Of course it would be great for your ego to get the invitation, but not really interested in what is the point?

Even if you have an additional disadvantage for submitting questions, the magazine high school counselors think we form a relationship of secondary education, and support staff, the documents sent to the many schools that students apply when they are completed, not have no intention of participating universities.

I'm not so sure that this practice is for the benefit of the university. It is true that the generation of applications to universities to a smaller percentage of the students, which means that they can accept as selective. This is useful for classification review.

Alumni of the University, which attract more applications that can also more motivated to donate to alma mater, are increasingly popular. But the promotion of so many students to a question is difficult to predict revenues for operators of registration, or the number of students who accept the offer for the actual license.

The scholarship is targeted for those, who are striving towards better education but lack the financial resources.

HEC and SAMMA TV have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on 20th October, 2008, for the joint implementation and management of SAMAA scholarship program.

Higher Education Commission (HEC), as part of its public private partnership initiative has joined hands with SAMAA TV for promotion of higher education in Pakistan. HEC is already managing a wide array of scholarship programs, sponsored by the Government of Pakistan.

This collaboration between a public entity i.e HEC and a private entity i.e SAMAA TV will serve as a model of Public Private Partnership program for other corporate entities.

On completion of the education, the successful scholarship holder will be offered a one year job contract with SAMAA TV, with a salary at par with the industry standard and in desired department.

Objectives

SAMAA TV has taken a leadership role in contributing to society through a structured social investment program, which aims to integrate the economic, social and environmental needs of the local communities.

Their social investment projects are a testimony to the company's commitment, targets and performance in delivering on our environmental and social responsibilities.

Primary objective of this scholarship program is to support those who possess merit and are in need of financial resources to pursue higher studies in the field of Mass Communication, Journalism or Media Studies in public sector universities.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should fulfill the below-mentioned criteria at the time of sending application form:

They must be Pakistani/AJK citizens and permanent residents.
They should be under 35 years of age or less on the closing date of advertisement (born on or after 13-02-1975),
They must posses marks above 50% in their entire academic career (e.g SSC, HSC, BA/BSc, or Equivalent etc).
They should not have obtained below 50 % marks in their entire academic career (e.g SSC, HSC, BA/BSc, or equivalent etc).
They should have obtained bachelor degree / 14th grade with atleast 60% or above marks.
Their last academic results must have been officially announced and they must be in possession of all of their academic transcripts. Those waiting for result can not apply.
Applicants should have already obtained admission in the Spring / Fall-2009 session, in the discipline of Mass Communication, Journalism or Media Studies in any of the public sector universities in Pakistan approved by HEC.
Their monthly family income, from all sources must be less than Rs. 40,000/.
They are NOT current or former employees of JAAG BROADCASTING SYSTEMS (PVT) LTD, SAMAA TV

How to Apply

Read the application form and every field very carefully, before filling the form.
You are advised to fill the form in block letters, using MS-Word, with one character per block.
Please keep a photocopy of the filled-in form, for your record.
Ensure that you have attached all required documents by completing the checklist, given at the end of application form.
Answer all the entries in the form. Those which are not applicable should be marked “N/A”
For family financial reporting, parents/guardians should be consulted.
All amounts should be mentioned in Pakistani Currency (Rs)
Do not overwrite or cross any information in the application form.
Do not provide false or incomplete information or one that cannot be supported with proof.
An affidavit needs to be submitted after qualifying for the scholarship.
The Applicant should not be a relative of, neither a current nor former employee, of JAGG Broadcasting Systems Pvt Limited, SAMAA TV.
Each scholarship will cover tuition fee only, other expenses would be borne by the SAMAA TV scholarship holder, him/herself.
Do not apply for the scholarship if your final intermediate and matriculation percentages are less than the required 50%, and Bachelor degree level percentage is less than the required 60%.
Incomplete and /or late applications received after closing date shall not be entertained.
Before Sending Application Package, please ensure to attach following testimonials
- Attested copies of Mark sheets/ certificate / Degree (Matriculation, Intermediate, Bachelor, Any other)
- Attested copies of last three months income certificate/salary slip. Verified by legal slips of Father / Guardian
- Attested copies of CNIC (Self, Father, Mother or Guardian, as applicable)
- Attested copies of Domicile certificate (Self, Father, Mother or Guardian, as applicable)
- Attested copy of B-form. (as a proof of number of siblings)
- Attested copies of last three months Utility Bills (Telephone, Gas & Electricity, all three types of bills)
- Disability certificate from a recognized hospital (if applicable)
- Attestation of enrolment as full time student from the department head.

Closing Date of Application

Application should reach on or before 13th February, 2010, by the close of office hours.

NO Application form will be accepted after the closing date.

Last Date for receipt of application in HEC is 13-02-2010. Applications received after the closing date will NOT be entertained.
